A comprehensive assessment by our specially trained physiotherapists will help determine the cause of TMJ symptoms and lay out an effective treatment plan to help alleviate the issues. Using the MyoWorx® approach, we can reveal underlying injury that should be addressed prior to additional therapy. The MyoWorx® approach gives us a unique perspective and allows us to effectively address the muscular component of the problem, which can clear up or greatly reduce ongoing symptoms.

What is Temporomandibular Joint Disorder?
Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ or TMD) is defined as problems with the jaw, jaw joint and / or the muscles surrounding the joint that allow for opening the mouth, chewing and talking. Pain and symptoms within the jaw joint or surrounding areas can be difficult to address as the pain or symptoms could be caused by physical joint changes such as arthritis or the cushioning disc between the joint being pinched. The symptoms can also be caused from teeth grinding or from stress.
TMJ symptoms can include jaw pain, grinding teeth (bruxism) and / or jaw clicking. Another common side effect of TMJ is headaches; usually in the temple area or side of the head on which patients are experiencing the difficulty. Studies have shown that common symptoms of TMJ are prevalent among patients who have suffered a whiplash injury from a car accident.
Patients who experience TMJ may also experience or have a history of vertigo, sinusitis, ear pain or ringing in ears.
